| Experience is something you get just after you needed it 1600,Foran Razorbacks, Meerkat bypass, Dyno tune, real headlight,plenty of chrome,switchblade pegs, Hagon Nitro shocks & Ikon progressive fork springs etc. Scorpion Western Low handlebars. PH adjustable fork caps.

The process is of checking and changing is quite involved on the Thunderbird 16/1700s. But checking is the easier of the two tasks. You might be lucky and find them in spec.
If you find one that is too tight, you'll need s thinner shim. If one is too loose, you'll need a thicker shim. Sounds can only be changed by removing the cam shafts. Replacing the cams with the correct toning is non trivial, requiring special tools.

Replacing shims is not a job for the inexperienced, if you are mechanically minded and can follow a workshop manual, have a couple of the special tools required, then you should be ok. There are heaps of posts on here about doing it.

You will need the timing pin, flywheel puller , holding tool for the flywheel . These can be made if you can borrow some and have a lathe. Try pricing from the UK, sometimes cheaper than dealers here.
